University Relations is responsible for telling U.Va.'s story to the world. It consists of two functional areas: Media Relations and Community Relations. The focus of the division is to frame strategic and proactive approaches to measurably improve institutional communications, community relations and media engagement. This work is accomplished through a variety of tactics, including focused emphasis on earned media, support for long-term strategic priorities and signature programs, greater dialogue with community partners and stakeholders and promotion of thought leadership through channels like UVA Today and social media.
Media relations serves as a liaison between the University and members of the news media and general public. In addition to managing media inquiries, the media relations team has contacts with local, national and international media organizations, and is constantly reaching out to them to tell U.Va.'s story and generate positive news.
