Earned Media Coverage

University Communications regularly garners positive coverage of UVA through targeted distributions of news releases, social media, owned channels and through engagement with news outlets and writers. We remain proactive in our efforts to attract and influence coverage of UVA through earned media – an approach that is essential to ensuring that our messaging is consistent, transparent, and accurately represents who we are and what is important to us.

Tragedy struck our UVA community on November 13, 2022 when three students were shot and killed returning from a field trip to Washington, D.C.. We worked to provide relevant and timely information to media sources and news outlets across the country.

When the Paul and Diane Manning Family Foundation provided a $100 million gift to establish a new institute of biotechnology at UVA we used a range of platforms and channels to promote coverage for the announcement, which was picked up by nearly 70 outlets. We continue to showcase the research and accolades earned by our faculty, staff and students as the University strives to be great and good in all we do.
