Sounds on Grounds

Sounds on Grounds is a new series devoted to the audio side of video. Prepare to experience performances of all types, from a cappella to orchestra, from the familiar to the experimental. The talent at UVA is here and waiting to be discovered. If it’s a sound and on Grounds, it’s fair game.

Sounds on Grounds caught The Hullabahoos on the Lawn performing “There’s Nothin’ Holding Me Back” by Shawn Mendes from their latest album “Washed Up.” It’s a capella magic.

As part of the “Arts on the Hill” program, Grammy and Oscar award-winning musician Jon Batiste visited Carr’s Hill. Then he sat at the piano and played “Butterfly.” Sounds on Grounds takes you there.

UVA media studies lecturer Matt Marshall composes and performs live scores during the screening of silent films, often joined by student and community musicians. Sounds on Grounds looked in as he performed the score from “Hypocrites,” a 1915 film by Lois Weber.
